Winter Seminar on Human Security Development and Energy Science

1. General Information:

This seminar is designed for undergraduate students to study the concept of Human Security Development (HSD) and Energy Science. The main theme of this seminar is energy development, which is an important issue in Human Security Development. The participating students are expected to deepen their knowledge on human security development and energy science with the prospect of finding solutions to technological, socio-economic and political issues all over the world. The seminar will offer lectures and class discussions as well as organize field trips and cultural events. Applicants are not limited to engineering, economics, or science – all fields are welcome.

2. Time: 09 – 21 January 2016

3. Venue: Kyoto University, Japan

4. Number of slots:

25 students (10 students will be selected by the AUN, the other 15 will be selected by the Graduate School of Energy Science)

5. Requirement:

  • Must be a full time undergraduate students from any major at the time of participating in the program
  • Must be in good health condition and fluent in English

6. Scholarship:

The 10 applicants as selected by the AUN Secretariat will be eligible for a scholarship from JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization). The amount of this scholarship is JPY 80,000 per person (tentative).

7. Certification:

The Graduate School of Energy Science, Kyoto University, will issue a certificate to students who complete the seminar program. This program is equivalent to 2 KU credits, and the participating students are able to earn equivalent credits at their home university with its approval.

8. Participation fees:

  • 10,000 Yen
  • Round-trip flight ticket
  • Local transportation in Japan (e.g: from Kansai International Airport, Oaska International Airport to Kyoto)
  • Visa application fees
  • Insurance
  • Meals

The program will support participants accommodation during the time in Japan

9. Application:

Step 1: Candidates will submit the application to the School/Department that they are currently in before 06/09/2014

Step 2: School/department will nominate the candidates to the Office of External and Public Relations before 07/09/2014
